Beckton lies at the end of the Docklands Light Railway (DLR), a driverless computerised train that runs along the old East London docklands. Despite being so close to the city it has a peaceful, waterside atmosphere. Apparently the summer sees this dock fill with yachts and leisure craft, but now I was surprised how few people I saw wandering around, despite the many new developments.
The abandoned block on the left caught my eye, and I wondered why such a prime waterfront block would go unused. I found out that before this area was redeveloped it used to be a much-protested animal testing lab, and has lain empty since.
